Design features: Through sawtooth cutting and groove squeezing, coffee beans are gradually broken down from whole particles into powder. The finer the texture, the more suitable it is for grinding fine powder. Hand-crank coffee grinders are convenient for home use and can be combined with French presses, Aeropresses, Mocha pots, etc., to form a portable outdoor or travel coffee set. Grinding coffee beans by hand adds a sense of ceremony to coffee making.

Grinding core: The core component of grinding
Composed of two relatively moving grinding discs, the surface of the grinding discs has regular patterns such as sawteeth, grooves, and conical protrusions. Through sawtooth cutting and groove squeezing, coffee beans are gradually broken down from whole particles into powder. The finer the texture, the more suitable it is for grinding fine powder.
Most hand-crank coffee grinders have conical grinding cores, with the upper grinding disc being conical and the lower grinding disc being grooved. Conical grinding cores have a larger contact area and usually offer better grinding efficiency and uniformity.

Handle: Power transmission
Provides power by rotating the handle. The handle is usually connected to the upper disc of the grinding core through a connecting rod, converting human power into mechanical rotational force.

Grind size adjustment dial: Controls the grind size
The distance between the grinding discs determines the coarseness of the coffee grounds. The smaller the distance, the finer the ground powder; the larger the distance, the coarser the powder.
The distance between the upper and lower grinding discs can be adjusted by rotating the dial, knob, or screw. Some models have a locking device to prevent the distance from shifting during grinding.

Bean hopper: Stores coffee beans to be ground, usually located above the grinding core. Ground coffee passes through the channel below the grinding core into the ground coffee container. The channel design should be smooth to avoid residual powder affecting the flavor of the next use.

Ground coffee container: Collects the ground coffee, often detachable, commonly with a rotating, snap-on, or magnetic attachment design, for easy emptying of the powder.

How to adjust the grind size?
Different brewing methods require different grind sizes. When using for the first time, it is recommended to grind a small amount of coffee beans to observe the uniformity of the particles. If there are obvious lumps, overly coarse or fine particles, adjust the setting and try again.

A misconception: coarser grounds don't taste better with higher temp/faster flow. Particle size affects extraction—finer boosts it (risk over-extraction), coarser may under-extract. Optimal extraction 18-22%. Grind impacts flavor.
